The entrepreneurial path is a highly creative one filled with unlimited possibilities
and choices. You might say it is freedom galore. And at the center of any
entrepreneur's world, I see massive amounts of learning, growth and transformation.
Sounds quite wonderful, right?
Well, yes, I would say that IT IS utterly magnificent...until it is not.
Allow me to elaborate.
Sometimes the extraordinary gift of unlimited possibilities can begin to feel
like anything but. Instead of flying high on our freedom, we can begin feeling
weighed down with frustration. Even though we are dwelling in a sea of glorious,
pure potential, it can begin to feel like we are drowning.
Huh? What on earth has happened?
Overwhelm has taken over.
Indeed, a heavy sense of overwhelm can shift our experience quickly and dramatically.
And not in a way that serves us! Therefore, I do believe that it serves us
extremely well to be super conscious of the primary patterns that can trigger
this sabotaging state.
I want to acknowledge there are so many things we could identify as contributing
factors to overwhelm. In fact, it would actually be quite an overwhelming
list!
So let's just focus on a few of the top culprits, shall we?
~ Operating under the illusion that it is all up to us Thankfully,
my coach is brilliant at seeing when this illusion has cast a spell on me.
She will offer a loving reminder that when we ask, it is given. She will affirm
that Source answers every time. And then, not surprisingly, she will express
her curiosity about whether or not I am asking! Needless to say, this peaks
my curiosity too. As a result, I can now say that I have intense appreciation
for the role that all of this plays in saying goodbye to our struggles with
overwhelm. Without a doubt, a sure-fire way to quickly feel overwhelmed is
to hold the idea that you are alone in your entrepreneurial adventure, to
tell yourself, consciously or not, that you have to figure out all the details
on your own. Of course, you might also be telling yourself that you then have
to implement on your own too. And all I can say to this is no wonder we get
overwhelmed! Bottom line, it is so crucial to increase our conscious awareness
that we always have the support of the Divine. Just imagine what would shift
for you if you were moving through each day and each task on your to-do list
KNOWING that Source is your sacred business partner and it is NOT your job
to micro-manage all the details. Within this exquisite dance of deliberate
co-creation, overwhelm does not exist. Furthermore, in addition to the splendid
nonphysical support we are blessed to have 24/7, we also have our physical
support network. So I encourage you to honestly evaluate where you are with
consistently seeking support from others and, most importantly, how you are
with truly receiving it.
~ Searching for answers outside, instead of inside Often
times, we convince ourselves that we must get more information in order to
move forward successfully with our dream. We tell ourselves that if we could
just _____, then we will be ready to _______. Unfortunately, this approach
is typically being fueled by our saboteurs and can easily lead to information
overload and outrageous overwhelm. And you know the worst part? The information
is not even what we REALLY needed. We just needed to have more faith that
we are more ready in this very moment than we know. We just needed to dive
into inspired action so that we could discover this truth about ourselves
in a deeper way. And we just needed to be willing to embrace any fumbling
as a perfect part of our divine unfolding, to be open to receiving invaluable
lessons along the way, to essentially trust the co-creative process.
~ Giving our undivided attention to the gap What gap am I
referring to here? Well, I am talking about the gap between where we are now
and where we want to be with our dream business, the distance we see between
our current circumstances and our big vision. Now, let me first emphasize
that we do want to have a clear and compelling vision that we are passionately
called to realize. Absolutely! What I am talking about here is wanting to
be sure that our vision is always a source of inspiration and empowerment,
as opposed to overwhelm. And when it comes to being successful in this regard,
I see that a paramount piece of the puzzle is not getting lost in the gap.
Growing a business brings with it a never ending list of possibilities and
projects to embrace; therefore, if we choose to focus on the gap, it seems
inevitable that we would live in a constant state of overwhelm. So instead
of a relentless focus on what STILL needs to be done, we want to be focused
on how we are ALREADY living into our vision. We want to be acknowledging
and celebrating the progress that we are making, however small or inconsequential
our inner critic might say it is. We want to stop minimizing or dismissing
the results we are experiencing. And rest assured that in giving up the self-defeating
habits, not only will you be letting go of overwhelm, you will be clearing
the way for immense FLOW and joy in your journey.
~ Forgetting the delicate balance of BEING and DOING Again,
I will repeat, as entrepreneurs we have an unending list of action steps that
we could be taking at any given moment to nurture the expansion of our dreams.
Truly, the possibilities are endless, no exaggeration. And I find that this
can be both wildly exhilarating AND a natural recipe for overwhelm, depending
on how we choose to engage with this reality. I believe the key is remembering
that while action, particularly inspired action, does play a significant part
in manifesting our visions, more is not always better. We want to acknowledge
that, ultimately, our way of BEING has the immeasurable impact on outcomes.
The spirit, or energy, in which we take action is not to be glossed over because
no amount of action can compensate for resistance, for a lack of alignment.
Period. So if we can be fiercely committed to fully honoring the priceless
value of our BEING and give ample attention to tending to our vibration, not
only do we release ourselves from the overwhelm associated with obsessing
about our action, but we also have the greatest chance of enjoying outstanding
results with any steps we do take. Twice the cause for celebration!
In closing, I want to encourage you to trust that releasing overwhelm does
NOT have to be an overwhelming transformation to embrace in your journey,
no matter what story your saboteurs may be telling. Remember that you get
to decide how this is going to flow. You are the creator of your life.
