"Sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith."
- Margaret Shepherd
Leap of faith..three little words that speak to a big, powerful place. A place
of transformation and growth. Leaps may come in all shapes and sizes, yet
the essence remains the same. Taking a leap of faith is about honoring your
truth and stepping boldly into possibilities. Leaping requires courage, trust
and a willingness to face the unknown.
Over the years, being a witness to this type of juicy living in others, as
well as embarking on my own leaps of faith, has continually provided me with
some of the most delicious and divine moments of my journey. Relishing this
awareness, I find myself deeply committed to exploring what supports us in
moving forward with taking the leaps of faith that want to be expressed through
us. How do we not hold back? Who are we being when we fully embrace the process?
Essentially, what are the ingredients that help us build a strong foundation?
Beyond courage, trust and a willingness to be with the unknown, there are
many other ingredients we might be mindful of cultivating as we prepare to
leap. While everyone's recipe is definitely unique and there are too many
ingredients to fully capture here, I invite you to be curious about the following…
Passion: When you ponder the heart of your leap of faith, how much
passion do you discover? How fired up are you? I encourage you to invest yourself
in those leaps of faith that are deeply aligned with your core values..leaps
that call you forth into who you are passionately committed to becoming..leaps
that light you up and stir your soul. Passion is fuel.
Grounded: Before leaping, do a solid check-in with yourself. How grounded
are you? And what is your level of awareness regarding what you need to stay
grounded? Given that leaps of faith can often involve a roller coaster ride
of emotions and experience, it is extremely helpful to be well-versed in grounding
practices, whatever that means for you. (Ex. meditation, yoga, connecting
with loved ones, dancing, playing with your dog, journaling, lighting candles,
etc.) How do you stay centered, focused and empowered?
Clarity: What is your leap really about at its core? What are you fiercely
committed to honoring in the process, no matter what? While there is plenty
of uncertainty with taking a leap of faith, the one area in which you always
have control is how you show up amidst the circumstances. Being crystal clear
about the values that are guiding you works wonders in strengthening your
foundation. The more clarity you possess, the more powerful you will be.
Patience: It can be tempting to expect immediate transformation once
we leap. Rarely is this the case. Much more common is a path filled with many
twists and turns, as well as what may feel like endless opportunities to practice
patience. I can certainly appreciate the excitement and desire that emerges
around wanting to be further down the road with creating your vision, and
I also want to point you in another direction. What is available to you in
this sacred moment? Allow space for experiencing the gifts of patience.
Spirit of Adventure: As you engage in your leap of faith, what perspective
are you holding? Is there room for fun, playfulness and adventure? Embracing
your leap with a spirit of adventure asks that you live in the moment, savor
the unfolding and be open to unexpected blessings. If you were to fully embody
this spirit as you navigate through your leap of faith, what would that look
like? Personally, I am amazed at what can happen when we step away from attachment
and step into openness, flexibility and curiosity. The ride tends to be so
much sweeter.
I hope you find this beginning exploration to be useful and thought provoking.
I know that in my own recent leaps and adventures with building my coaching
business, I have been reciting the words "patience and trust, patience
and trust" more times than I can remember. It has truly become a mantra.
Now what about you? What leap of faith are you longing to take? How ready
are you? What support do you need to move forward? Who will you be on the
other side? And finally, how will you celebrate your remarkable leap?
